Prime Video established The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power as its fantasy figurehead when it premiered in 2022, but the platform's very best series in the genre had already launched months earlier. As a Lord of the Rings prequel series, Rings of Power really should have been the biggest thing on television since Game of Thrones. That's certainly what Amazon believed, anyway, considering the outrageous amount of money it dumped into the project.

Of course, truth be told, Rings of Power is a monumental fantasy TV show. It just isn't as unanimously loved as Amazon might have hoped.
