In Daniel Jeremiah's latest mock draft, the Washington Commanders make a surprising trade to add draft capital.
The 2026 NFL Draft is a mere 10 days away. The city of Pittsburgh is gearing up for the onslaught of traffic and tourism slated to roll through town, and NFL teams are finalizing their draft boards. Mock drafts are arriving in abundance, and while some teams are relatively easy to predict, others are not.The Washington Commanders are not an easy team to predict in 2026.
They currently have only six draft picks, with zero picks in the second and fourth rounds. So, when NFL analyst Daniel Jeremiah released his new mock draft on Sunday, he became the first to predict that the Commanders would trade out of their No. 7 spot, but it's not to move up.OH MY GOODNESS! I woke up to this freaking gem: @MoveTheSticks revealed his top-10 mock draft to @richeisen.
He predicted the #Jets would trade (No. 16, No. 44, & No. 103 overall) to the #Commanders for No. 7 overall so they could land Ohio State WR Carnell Tate!!!🎥… pic.twitter.com/35m6DvcTAK— Paul Andrew Esden Jr (@BoyGreen25) April 13, 2026Rich Eisen is talking to Jeremiah about his mock. In this version, when it's time for the No. 7 pick, Jeremiyah Love is still on the board. So is Carnell Tate.
But instead of drafting them, Jeremiah predicts the New York Jets will trade into the spot."Yeah, this is about an opportunity here, for the New York Jets, to move up to be aggressive in this draft. They are loaded with picks, in this year and next year. And when you look at the cost for them to go from 16 to seven, you're talking about their second, second-round pick, a fourth-round pick, and their 16th overall pick.
So, it's not that big of an ask, and a Washington team that needs some more picks, they're a little light, they don't have a second-round pick, so they slide back. The Jets come back up, they've already got David Bailey, and now they add Carnell Tate to team up with a fellow Ohio State Buckeye in Garrett Wilson."Now, this scenario is absolutely plausible, and maybe even probable. The Commanders definitely need more draft picks this year, and if the right offer comes along, they'll be willing to talk.
It's not a secret that they are open for business, but it also depends on which players are available. Do they trade down if Tate, Sonny Styles, or Jeremiyah Love are still on the board? That's a tough call. When it comes time for the Commanders to make their selection on April 23, their phones will absolutely be ringing. But if one of their top guys is still there, the teams that call should be prepared to dole out some serious compensation that includes multiple draft picks. This article originally appeared on Commanders Wire: Washington Commanders: Daniel Jeremiah makes big trade in new mock draft
